Patricia Area Community Endeavours (PACE) board members and staff met with Kenora MP Bob Nault last week as FedNor announced nearly $1 million in operational funding for the local community economic development agency spread over the next three years.
Nault, Member of Parliament for Kenora, made the $960,000 announcement on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor.
The agency has been operating on a frozen budget for nearly 10 years.
“That 10-year freeze has had huge implications for the ability of these organizations to do more,” said Nault. “Simply because it’s hard to succeed on a budget of roughly $300,000 a year. We hope to be able to announce at some time in the future an improvement to that.”
PACE Chair Rob McClendon joined by video conferencing.
“Today’s investment demonstrates the confidence the Government of Canada has in our organization and the work we do,” said McClendon. “I am thrilled that FedNor recognizes our commitment to promoting community and economic growth within the Patricia Region and fostering business start-up and expansion.”
PACE is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) in Northern Ontario funded by FedNor to provide financing, mentoring and business development services to businesses and communities.
Entrepreneurs looking to start a business or take their existing businesses to the next level will find the support they need at Patricia Area Community Endeavours Inc. (PACE), a federally funded, not-for-profit organization dedicated to small business growth and community economic development. Business planning, counselling and referral, and access to capital are just a few of the services being offered by PACE thanks to a Government of Canada investment of $960,000 over three years.
