Home-course advantage key for Eagles’ golf team

Dryden High School golfers dominated the leaderboard as they hosted the first interschool tournament of the NorWOSSA season, Sept. 5 at Eagles’ Landing.

DHS captured first place in both the boys’ and girls’ team divisions in a competition featuring 50 boys and eight girls from seven schools around the northwest.

In the boy’s individual division Kirk Markowski of Dryden fired a one-under-par 71 to place first overall, Cam Zapitelli (Dryden) was second with a 77 followed by Jed Rattai (Beaver Brae) with a 78.

In the girl’s individual division Christina Romyn of Sioux Lookout’s Queen Elizabeth District High School (QEDHS) placed first overall followed by Jenna Poirier from QEDHS in second with Haylee Whitney of DHS placing third.

The season schedule continues in Atikokan (Sept. 11), Sioux Lookout (Sept. 17) and the NWOSSA final at Beauty Bay in Kenora (Sept. 27).
