Sports & Recreation — 21 February 2012
The Dryden Ice Dogs started out last week with the Mayor’s Challenge, facing the Sioux Lookout Flyers with some home and home action on Feb. 14 and 15. Losing to the Flyers in Sioux on Feb. 14 with a score of 6-5, the Dogs redeemed themselves at home, defeating the Flyers, 3-2.
The Dogs then went on to the weekend, and played the grand opening game for WinterFest, matching up against the local police forces.
The annual Cops vs. Dogs game is entertainment to say the least, with some good old-fashioned hockey thrown in.
Up against local OPP and Dryden Police Service, the Dogs saw a tie of 10-10 at the end of 60 minutes.
Was there any cheating during this game? No, not a bit!
The Dogs then faced off with the Fort Frances Lakers during their last regular season home game on Feb. 20.
Seeing a loss to the Lakers of 3-1, the team will finish out the regular season with a visit in Wisconsin on Feb. 25 and finishing in Duluth on Feb. 26.
