Doris Danielson – April 5, 1927 – December 25, 2011
Doris Danielson passed away peacefully on Christmas morning 2011.
Doris was born on the family farm April 5, 1927 to Ed and Mabel Saville. She went to school in Pine Grove and later, in Dryden.
After World War II, she married George Danielson of Eagle River. For a time they ran the Sanford Poultry Farm then they moved to Atikokan where George was employed by Steep Rock Iron Mines. They retired to a farm on the Rainy River near Devlin. Doris returned to Dryden after George passed away.
Doris excelled at being a mother, grandmother and homemaker. Her children and grandchildren consider themselves blessed by her gentle, sweet spirit and loving kindness. Besides love, her household was wrapped in yarn. Doris could knit anything perfectly even if she had only a description or rough sketch to work from. In fact she knitted the sweater she wore when she started school! Over the years Doris sewed clothes for her friends and family. At university her daughter was asked by students with an eye for European fashion, which couturier house had made her wardrobe. They were amazed that it was the ‘House of Mom’.
Like her father before her, Doris loved to walk, putting in at least three miles a day. She also loved to dance, especially the Jitterbug, winning local contests.
Doris’ passing seems like the passing of an era for the Saville family. She was the youngest child of Ed and Mabel Saville who came, after World War I, from Southern Ontario to pioneer a homestead farm at Eton Rugby.
Doris is predeceased by her husband; her parents and eight sisters and five brothers. Her son-in-law Rick Greaves and grandson Sean Greaves also predeceased her.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Joan Fossey (and son-in-law Steve Fossey) of Vermilion Bay and Debbie Greaves of Dryden; four grandchildren, Jen Greaves of Dryden, Sean Fossey of Dryden, Symantha DeRoos of Acton and Chris Greaves of Winnipeg. There are also ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Doris’ family invited friends and family to celebrate her life at a memorial visitation Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Moffat Chapel of Stevens Funeral Homes. Interment will follow in the Box Alder Cemetery in Devlin where a graveside service will be held in the spring of 2012.
If friends desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice through the Stevens Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1.
