The Ice Dogs started the season with two losses, but quickly turned the four-game home stretch back to their advantage.
Friday, September 23 saw a 6-5 win over the Thunder Bay North Stars, and Saturday, September 24 saw a 6-1 defeat of the Duluth Clydesdales.
“After four games, the guys have found themselves a little bit, and the last two games were a good indication of how we can play,” said coach Joe West.
In his first year with the Ice Dogs, coming from a background of pro level hockey in Germany, West feels the new team is coming together quickly and working as a unit.
“It’s a long season. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon,” said West. “But so far, they are taking in a lot of information on how I?like the game to be played and they are doing a great job.”
Returning players Ryan Lobreau and Thomas Greene were in the spotlight this past weekend with hat tricks on Friday and Saturday respectively.
One returning player who didn’t get much time in this season was Beau DiLoreto, seeing a broken leg following game two.
It’s not looking good for the young player to return this season, but West and the team are hopeful that it could happen.
“Beau had some experience and I was counting on him to be a good third liner for us. Now someone’s going to have to step up,” said West. “He played for this team, he was proud to play for this team, and he hurt himself playing for this team.
