Eagles girls grab first, boys aim for semi-final


The Eagles girls’ soccer team secured their first place finish in the NorWOSSA standings with two wins on the Kenora fields today (Wednesday).

The girls tied both the Beaver Brae Broncos and the Fort Frances Muskies 1-1. Lauren Shoguchi added the first goal in game one and Haylee Whitney earned the Eagles lone goal against the Muskies.

The boys earned two losses today, meaning they will be squaring off in the semi-final next Wednesday. They fell 2-1 to the Broncos and 3-1 to the Muskies.

Ritchie Callewart scored his fourth of the season against the Broncos and Matt Bartlett planted his first of the season against the Muskies.

All NorWOSSA finals will take place in Dryden on Wednesday, May 26. Times and results to follow.

A silver medal for girls at OFSAA


The Eagles just couldn’t hold on to their four point lead as General Amherst pushed past to take the gold medal at the OFSAA championships in Perth.

The Eagles earned a silver medal, their highest achievement yet in a three set game, losing 19-25, 19-25, 10-15.

DHS girls going to game #3


The DHS Eagles girls’ hockey team are going into game #3 of their three-game semifinal against the Thomas Aquinas Saints.

The Eagles put away the Saints in round one with a convincing 5-1 win. The Saints came back with a vengeance, earning a 3-1 win over the Eagles, giving them their third loss of the season.

Action starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Dryden Memorial Arena.

On the boys side, the Eagles ousted the Broncos in two straight games to earn their spot in the NorWOSSA final against the Fort Frances Muskies.

The boys down the Broncos 6-2 in Kenora on Friday, Feb. 26 in a come from behind win. The boys held off on Sunday, Feb. 28 to beat the Broncos 2-1.

The team is in Fort Frances on Friday, March 5 for round one against the Muskies. They’re back in Dryden Sunday, March 7 for game two.
