On Monday, August 16, 2010 at approximately 10:12 am, a motor vehicle collision occurred on Highway 17 west in Eton Township, District of Kenora approximately 300 meters east of the Highway 605 (Eton-Rugby Road) and Highway 17 junction.
A west-bound passenger vehicle and an east-bound pickup truck collided on the highway. The driver of the pickup truck suffered non life-threatening injuries and was treated at the Dryden Regional Hospital.
The female driver of the passenger vehicle, Rosanne O’Brien, aged 35 of Kitchener, Ontario, died as a result of the collision.
Members of the Dryden OPP detachment responded to the collision along with fire and ambulance emergency services from Dryden. Highway 17 was closed as a result of the collision. The highway was opened to one lane of traffic at 3:25 pm and then completely opened at 3:50 pm.
Police are still investigating the collision.

At approx. 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, Wabigoon Fire received a 911 dispatch to attend to a tractor trailer unit MVC. Dryden Fire Service Unit 25 was also dispatched as automatic mutual aid.
On arrival, Wabigoon command reported a single vehicle trator trailer unit flipped over.
OPP were on scene directing traffic while the driver and passengers were already out of the vehicle. No hazardous good were reported on board the unit.
Wabigoon Fire requested Dryden units stand down. For the next two hours, Wabigoon Fire assisted with removal efforts and highway clean up.
Hwy. 17 was completely closed for approx. 90 minutes while crews secured the vehicle and the towing company moved the unit to one side of the highway. Hwy. 17 was opened to one lane of traffic after that.
The tractor trailer unit was removed from the scene on Sunday, July 25.
