Hagens Heroes men’s slopitch champs

After a five years without having a local team win the 10th annual Sterling Crossman Memorial Men’s Slopitch Tournament, Hagens Heroes broke the chain.
After a huge come-from-behind 23-22 win in the semi finals against the Kenora Astros, the Heroes headed to the final against the Print Gear Blitz.
The boys once again found themselves behind but rallied halfway through the game to blow past the Blitz with a score of 27-11 and earned the $1,100 grand prize.
The Blitz overcame the Wolfpack in the semi finals with an impressive 33-6 win.
The Blitz were looking to break their losing streak in the tournament final but were once again denied, going four consecutive years without a trophy.
In the B-side final, the the Astros scored six runs in the ninth for a comeback  21-20 win over the Wolfpack.
In the C-side finals, the Alcobolics took a 20-19 win over the McKinstry Chargers.
Teams from Atikokan, Fort Frances and International Falls, Kenora, Sioux Lookout and Dryden participated in the event.

Senior girls going to OFSAA

The Eagles Senior girls’ volleyball team is off to OFSAA after their two-game NWOSSA win over St. Ignatius High School in Thunder Bay over the weekend.
The girls took game one in three sets, 25-9, 25-23, 25-13.
Coach Todd Desautels says by shutting down their lead hitter, they easily put away St. Ignatius.
“The girls played to the game throughout the entire match. We had to shut one of their middle hitters by serving placement and we did.
We got off our game plan in the second set but were able to pull out a hard from crom behind win.
Round two was much quicker for the girls as they beat out the home team 25-12, 25-9, 25-10.
Desautels says the team was focused on the task at hand and stuck to the game plan throughout the entire match.
The girls will make their way to the all Ontario championships March 8-10 in Perth, ON.
