“Pieces of Dryden” project well underway

This post was written by Sarah Madussi

To honour Dryden’s centennial, 12 local artists of the Dryden Regional Arts Council are creating “Pieces of Dryden”, a mosaic sculpture representing the four elements of nature: Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
Earth will be represented by greens, browns and greys. Air will be be represented with blues, pinks, oranges and yellows. Fire will be in reds, oranges, golds and yellows and blues, purples and greens will represent the water.
Each element will be represented in the Pagoda-shaped design that is made up of eight four ft. by eight ft. panels.
The design is made up of stained glass, recycled materials such as tiles, dishes, pottery, mirrors, rocks, etc, and wood.
Once complete, the panels will be assembled together to create the eight-sided mosaic.
The artists have set up shop in the back of the Golden Mile Plaza, space donated by Marcel Arsenault, and have put over 430 hours into creating the project since February, meeting three times a week to work on the creation.
Donations of $25 are also being accepted for the project in exchange for a name tile that will be added into the mosaic.
Donations can be made at Naked North, Lotto One, City Hall and to any one of the 12 artists involved in the project.
