It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James Sydney Cockle (Jim) beloved
husband, father, grandfather and great Grandfather.
Jim was born Feb.16 1935 in Leross, Saskatchewan, the ninth child of 13 — born to Ivy and Ernest.
Jim was a very hard working man, started working on the family farm at age 12 at 14 he went to B.C. and found work in a suitcase factory. From there he went to trucking, to an equipment operator to a heavy-duty mechanic.
On July 16, 1955 he married the love of his life Joyce, taking her to live with him in Crescent Spur B.C. then back to Saskatchewan. They moved to Ontario in 1969 with four children, at that time he was a Perth’s Dry Cleaners delivery man.
Jim worked at Dryden Airport, sold life insurance , with Hoey McMillans and with Bill and Craig Carens. He loved to fish, hunt, garden, tinker with motors and rebuild alternators and starters, passing on his talents to his kids and grandchildren.
In 1969 He built a house outside of Dryden. In 1974 He built a cabin on Wabigoon Lake and moved there in 1989.
After retirement Jim kept busy with helping his wife at the Dryden and District Agricultural Society. Always there when they needed him, Jim was a great potato peeler and prep man and helped work on the grounds and buildings.
He drove Joyce to all her functions until he quit driving. He had
a great sense of wit and humour and a big smile for everyone.
He loved to watch and feed his birds, chipmunks and deer and was very seldom was seen without wearing his special work clothes and hat.
He spent many years taking his grandsons to karate and
Hockey; and his granddaughters to rodeos and horse shows.
He has touched the hearts of many, many people.
He leaves behind the loves of his life: his wife Joyce, children Charles( Lorraine), Donna, Robert, (Dawn), Damon (Janet). Grandchildren: Angeline (Alex) Ashley, Brian (Shandi), Derek, Melissa(Devon), Katrina, Damon Jr. (Amanda) and Shayne(Lindsay).
Also step-granddaughter Jeanette and seven great grandsons and one step great granddaughter; two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
