Ellen Friesen (Bubs) (nee Launder) 1923 – 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ellen on September 13, 2017 at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Maurice Friesen. Loving mother of Victor, Maureen and Murray. Cherished grandmother of Christopher. Danielle, Alysha and Elizabeth. Great-grandmother of Calix and Delphi. Ellen received her early education in Minnitaki and at 17 years moved to Fort William where she worked in an airplane factory during the early years of World War II. She met and married her husband Maurice, during that time. They later moved to Montreal when Maurice was transferred with the Canada Car Company. She resided there until her death.

Ellen worked for the local school board and in later years volunteered at the Nova Thrift Shop. She was a sweet lady, made friends easily and cherished those relationships during her lifetime. Ellen loved to swim and cross country ski. She rode her bicycle until she was well over 80 years. Every summer she traveled to visit her family in Dryden and to pick wild blueberries.

Ellen was predeceased by her husband Maurice, her parents Percy and Ellen Launder, three sisters, Violet (Launder) Murdick-Gamble, Margaret Launder and Mabel (Launder) Saville and two brothers Charles and Jack Launder. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the Dryden Area.

Her ashes will be interred during a graveside service at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Minnitaki, Ontario at 2:00 p.m. October 14, 2017
