The former Pinewood School is one step closer to having new life.

The proposed Dryden Urban Indigenous Homeward Bound (UIHB) will be comprised of 15 family units and on-site family resources such as day care.

City council has approved an amendment to allow use of the property at 91 Rourke Avenue to establish residential accommodations for up to fifteen apartment units within facilities on site in addition to the uses already permitted in the institutional zone. The former permitted uses of the property zone did not identify dwellings. The amendment is to include a site-specific exception to the institutional zone to permit a limited number and specific type of dwelling use on the property and reduce the minimum lot frontage requirement from 8 metres per unit to 6.7 metres per unit for the dwelling use.

A special public meeting was held on October 16, 2017 at 5 p.m.

The amendment was approved at the regular council meeting later that evening.
