The ceaseless weekend rains finally relented, as if they knew there was a race to be run.

And, as in years past, a similar narrative emerged as Kenora’s Dan Morwood caught up to local Cory Smith on the bike leg of race and never looked back — adding a fourth Dryden Triathlon win after sitting out of last year’s race to avoid aggravating an injury.

Morwood, who often uses the Dryden event as a training aid for larger events completed the course in 1:00:37. Smith would come in at 1:04:14.

Top female finisher Rebecca Andrews caught perennial contender Sherry-Lynn Hill during the run portion of the course finishing at 1:13:09.

The Sprint Distance triathlon featured a 750m downstream swim in the Wabigoon River, a 20 km bike down Hwy. 594 and a five kilometre run.

Fiona Cook grabbed the Kids Triathlon title in a blazing 22:22, followed by Raiden Trist who was hot on her heels just 30 seconds later.

Ethan Cook won the event’s 5km Fun Run, crossing the finish line at 21:37.
