Several Eagles Nordic skiers will make the trip to the Ontario high school championships after great showings at NWOSSAA in Atikokan, Feb. 6.

Good trail conditions and warm weather provided competitive results for the DHS team. In the Jr. Girls category, Sarah Urquhart finished the 3.7 km course in a time of 17 minutes, earning her a bronze medal, just 9 seconds out of second place. In the Senior Girls category, the 4.5 km course was dominated by Corrin Kuzemchuk, taking gold and finishing in a time of 16:35, almost two minutes ahead of the next skier. Devan Schmidt had a strong race in the Senior Boys 7.6 km race, taking the silver medal with a time of 27:51. Many strong performances were put in by DHS racers, resulting in a first place team standing for the Senior Girls and a second place team standing for the Senior Boys. The next round of competition will be the OFSAA provincial championships held in Timmins on Feb. 28 to March 1.
