The Superior International Junior Hockey League hosted their annual general meeting in Dryden over the weekend.
All of the teams in the league attended the meeting including the newly named Thief River Falls Norskies.
Dryden GM Ice Dogs’ President Mike Sveinson said that with two teams in Minnesota now it will allow for more road trips as opposed to driving down and driving back again.
“I consider these guys my partners in the preservation of the SIJHL and this weekend we worked accordingly,” said Sveinson. “Everybody has their own agenda, everybody is out for their own team but it’s obvious that all of them, like me, have the good of the SIJHL in mind at all times as well. Yes we wanted to change the way we deal with our video review, maybe the other teams didn’t want it as badly as we do but they were all able to come to the table and work collectively to come to a place that we all agree on. We’ll be moving to a three person independent review panel for on ice incidents and everybody, including the Ice Dogs is thrilled about that.”
The new process with be similar to the one proposed at the Ice Dogs AGM. A decision for appeal will be sent to the league with a monetary value, a move that adds more accountability Sveinson says. The incident will then be reviewed the independent panel before a decision is passed down.
The Dryden GM Ice Dogs home opener is set for the third weekend of September.
