Fire team called to rail side blaze

Dryden firefighters from both fire halls, were called to two incidents during the day Monday March 30.

At 8:30 a.m. the Dryden Fire Service, water / ice rescue team was dispatched by 911, to the Government Dock Van Horne Ave., for a vehicle through the ice about 100 meters out on the Wabigoon Lake ice road to the South shore.

On arrival the SUV was found to be stuck in a large slush area formed on the ice road. The vehicle was towed off within 30 minutes by a private vehicle. No injuries occurred and the vehicle suffered a flat tire from the ordeal.

At 1:30pm Dryden firefighters were called by 911 to attend Elm Bay Rd. in East Dryden for a pile of treated rail ties burning along the CP Rail mainline.

On arrival fire crews suppressed the pile fire with foam and water, a CP Rail boom truck separated the burning ties for extinguishment. Fire crews were on scene for about an hour.

The cause of this fire is under investigation by CP Rail Police.
