Ear Falls’ Trout Forest Music Festival will welcome some local songwriting talent this Aug. 9-11.

Dinorwic’s Dan Bartz and recent transplant to the city Jon Thompson have each been given the nod to join the lineup as regional showcase selections.

Bartz, a regular denizen of the open mic’ scene and longtime patron of the festival says he’s been working towards a gig at ‘The Trout’ for several years.

“It’s big for me,” said Bartz. “You have to play original stuff and over the last couple of years I’ve been writing and writing — to where I have about 40 songs under my belt now.”

Honing his storyteller style on a steady diet of Bob Dylan records for decades, Bartz also cites Neil Young as a major influence.

“Anything that has a story behind it — it’s got to go somewhere and have a great guitar riff.”

Jon Thompson will also take the stage at 2013’s Trout Forest Music Festival — adding his northern-conscious songwriting and passionate stage presence to the mix of 23 acts scheduled to appear multiple times throughout the weekend.
