Shirley Ellen Lake – 1932 – 2012
In loving memory of Shirley Lake, age 79 years, who passed away peacefully in the Dryden Regional Health Centre on Monday, February 6th.
Born in Toronto, Shirley was raised and educated there graduating from Nursing School at the Toronto Western Hospital.  She started her nursing career in Nipigon and Beardmore before moving to Dryden and working as a nursing supervisor, mill nurse and safety supervisor and with the WSIB as a counselor.
An avid curler, Shirley played for Peggy Wherrett on the team that won an Ontario Championship and went on to the Diamond “D”.
An active volunteer, she participated in the Dryden 2000 Campaign, on the Board of Directors at Patricia Gardens, with DARC, the Dryden Figure Skating Club, NWO Sports Council, St. John’s Ambulance, Minor Hockey, she taught Sunday School, belonged to Toastmasters, started a Scout Troop in Beardmore, enjoyed knitting, cross stitch and needlepoint.
Shirley’s family was very important to her. She is survived by her husband Douglas; by her children, Jana (Ross) Lovie, Wendy Coombes, Jim (Lynda) Lake, Keith (friend Denise) Lake and Ted (Sabrina) Lake; by 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Myles) Morris, Alyson Lovie and Jeff (Kayla) Lovie, Krista and Andrew Coombes, Kurtis (Cathy) West, Brad (Marianne) West, Garry (Lisa Costa) Lake and Ticanna Lake, Zach and Ceara Lake; 10 great grandchildren, Nolan, Liam and Iya Morris, Michael, Adam, Josh, Noah and Miya West, Chloe Anne and Evan Costa-Lake; her brothers Glen and David Bonham; sister Joan Tooke, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Jake Saunders and great granddaughter Carly.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 11th at 2:00 p.m. in First United Church with Rev. Scott Gale officiating.  Cremation followed and interment of ashes will take place at a later date.
Visitation was held Friday, February 10th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Moffat Chapel of the Stevens Funeral Home.
