Obituaries — 21 February 2012
In loving memory of Roy Albert Lever, age 71 who passed away suddenly on February 8, 2012.
Roy was born on February 1, 1941 at the Dryden Red Cross Hospital in Dryden, Ontario.
He was predeceased by his father George Edward, his mother Dorothy Elizabeth, infant brother George Andrew, sister Ella Bernice and brother Herbert Arthur.
He is survived by sisters Tessa Smith, Mary Albisser and Ruth (Ray) Wilson and brothers Bill, Jim and George, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Roy maintained contact and interest in the well-being of family and friends near and far.
Roy was an avid believer in clubs for youth and was involved wih Junior Farmers of Canada, Agriculture in the Classroom, as well as leadership and training of many 4-H clubs. He received many awards of recognition for his contribution and on February 12, 2012 was to be presented with a 30-year Leadership Award for his 4-H club work. He worked extensively with the Dryden District Agricultural Society as director  and sat on many advisory committees. Because of his experience and knowledge he was often asked to share his valued opinion. Roy was an enthusiastic exhibitor in various classes and often worked as a judge at the Fall Fair as he kept up to date on the current Provincial Standards. He was also involved in many other aspects of agriculture such as Kenora District Cattlemen’s Assoc., Soil and Crop Assoc., Cloverbelt Seed and Feed Co-op and the Farmers Market Assoc. He was well noted for his sale of farm produce from home as well as through the Farmers’ Market.
After graduating from Dryden High School, Roy worked at St. Regis Paper Products for several years. He then worked on road construction doing mainly survey work for various companies including Bowmans, Hughie McMillan, Martin Peterer, Steve Blair and Northwest Vegetation Control. During these years he also maintained the family farm.
A memorial service will be held February 28, 2012 at the Dryden District Agricultural Fairgrounds at 2 p.m. with Brian Eschbach officiating. Cremation has taken place and interment of ashes will follow at a later date.
If friends desire, donations may be made to the Dryden District Agricultural Society at the office at the Fairgrounds.
