The Dryden Holiday Inn Bantam AA Paperkings captured their third championship this season at the 10-team Steel City International Hockey Classic in Sault Ste. Marie over the weekend of Jan. 6-7.
Dryden defeated the Sudbury AA Bulldogs 3-0 in the Sunday final with goals from Brandon Stanley, Josh Oberg and Trevor Kavanaugh. Brady Desserre picked up the shutout in net.
The Paperkings reached the finals by defeating Sault Ste. Marie Blackhawks 7-1 in semi-final action after sweeping the round robin with wins against Saginaw Badgers 4-1, Soo Michigan Lakers 5-1, Thunder Bay Beavers 6-2 and Sault Source for Sports 3-0. Paperking, Brandon Stanley, was awarded Tournament Top Forward and teammate Tyler Boon was awarded Tournament Top Defenceman honours Sunday during trophy presentations.
Dryden’s record now improves to 35-3-2 with three gold and one silver for the season.
