Winter fun on the ice road

The opening of the ice road in Dryden is always a celebratory affair for residents who live across the lake, avid anglers, and winter enthusiasts. Saturday, Dec. 10 was a day enjoyed by many, including Josh Oberg (left in blue striped jacket) and his friend Brendan Bartlett as they enjoyed some hockey practice on the frozen, clear surface.

Also enjoying the beautiful day were the local snowkiters, including Paul Matousek from Sioux Lookout (above). Although the lack of snow made it difficult to snowkite on skis, Matousek found his way all over the lake in a very short time. Brad Woodworth, Bruce Stratford, Gerry Legros and Blair Skene also enjoyed the day under parachute, some on skates, some on skis.

The traditional ice shack community has already begun to arrive, with three shacks on the ice surface, two more on the shore ready to go, and many more on their way.
