Nice ice

Wabigoon Lake was the place to be over the weekend as mild temperatures and calm winds gave residents a chance to explore the unique ice conditions that have developed. With most of the lake bearing smooth, exposed ice at an average thickness of 8 to 12 inches, skaters roved for kilometres, enjoying an opportunity that happens perhaps once in a generation. The weekend also saw a rush of ice fisherman jockeying for the optimum position to park their shacks along the ice road.
