Obituaries — 25 November 2011
Minnie Margaret (Reid) Horn – June 18, 1911 – November 3, 2011
Minnie was born in Dryden on June 18, 1911 as the daughter of Mary Viola (Beddome) Reid and Duncan Reid.  She celebrated her 100th birthday this past June and was a true Drydenite having lived her whole life in Dryden.
Minnie’s parent’s family grew to a total of 12 (she had 6 brothers and 3 sisters) and she was the last remaining member of this family.
Minnie married Don Horn in 1937 and had two children (Donna Grant, Country Harbour N.S. and Jim Horn, Kelowna, B.C.).  Her husband predeceased her in 1983.
During her lifetime, Minnie had a strong sense of community where she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, leader and Commissionaire in the Girl Guides, active in the United Church and the Dryden General Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary.  She created and ran the first Nursery School in Dryden in the period of 1949-1956.
A number of years were spent working in various retail stores including Alfred Pitt’s General Store, Proudfoot’s Ladies’ Wear, Ella Lynn’s Dress Shop and Pitt’s Music Store.  On a personal level, many hours were spent enjoying various handicrafts and one of her works – a hand crocheted version of “The Lord’s Prayer” – still hangs in the United Church.
Apart from her two children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Minnie leaves behind a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
Minnie passed on November 3, 2011; may she rest in peace.
A memorial funeral service was held Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in First United Church with Reverend Scott Gale officiating. Interment of ashes followed in the Dryden Cemetery.
If friends desire donations may be made to the DRHC Foundation or a charity of choice through Stevens Funeral Homes P.O. Box 412, Dryden ON P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be emailed to sympathycard@shaw.ca subject: Horn
