Youth conference gathers insight

Approximately 40 people of all ages came out to the Adult Ally Mentorship Training program that took place at the Best Western in Dryden on Oct. 6 and 7.
The objectives of the sessions were to formally train approximately 15 adults as “Adult Allies” to work with the.
Other goals include ensuring the voices of the youth and adult allies are heard in decision making processes, at youth service agencies, all levels of government, systems and organizations.
Presented by the Students Commission: Centre of Excellence For Youth Engagement, additional goals included the groups to oversee the development of the Dryden and area Child and Youth Strategic Plan.
Also to create a child and youth friendly region by ensuring the community fosters health, education, safety and a bright future for all young people.
Included in the sessions was Shayne MacKinnon, Neighbourhood Legacy Project, Rotary and Chair of the Child and Youth Strategic Plan (CYSP), Mike Ebbeling, Vice-Chair of CYSP, Community Services Officer for the Dryden Police Service, Kevin Hildebrand.
Also were representatives from different levels of the local private and public school boards, the aboriginal community, members of the mental health and addictions organizations, child and family services, youth justice representatives, as well as city of Dryden representatives including Andi Kidd, councillor Mary Trist, City Manager Joe van Koeverden, and Dryden Youth Centre staff, Megan Pinette.
