Jesse Dirk Nyman of Moose Jaw, formerly of Northwestern Ontario, passed away on October 2, 2011 at the age of 66.Jesse was a valiant cancer warrior, who not only fought for his own life but for the lives of others as he participated in many research projects, as well as providing feedback to the Saskatchewan health care system.
We sincerely thank all those who provided care for Jesse.
Jesse was born in what is now called Thunder Bay, Ontario. He attended Public School in Upsala, ON, and Selkirk High School in Thunder Bay. He graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1968 in Toronto as an Electrical Engineer Technologist. He returned to school in 1973 and graduated from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Electrical) in 1975.
Jesse had a multi-faceted career in the electrical engineering field with many positions across North America, some of which took him to Europe. He worked in Mining, Pulp and Paper, Oil and Gas Industries and Pharmaceutical. He held many positions: apprentice, electrician, technician, maintenance engineer, senior instrument engineer, supervisor, superintendent, plant engineer, lead field engineer and construction manager.
In 1998 he formed his own company called Nijman Electrical and Controls Inc. Jesse’s career brought him to Saskatchewan in 1999, when he met his soul mate and future wife Nola Ayers.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, old timer hockey, baseball, curling and downhill skiing. He was a huge Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan. He was a Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan but switched to the Saskatchewan Roughriders as a condition of marriage to a “flat lander”.
Jesse is predeceased by his father in 1978, mother in 1981, first wife, Rosemarie in 1995, and brother Everett in 2010.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Nola Ayers; children Debra (Ted), Donald, and Suzanne (Dennis); step-children Sara (Randy), Robert (special friend Amber), Chad (special friend Hillary); grandchildren Sam, Maria, Zak, Kira, Jack, Seasha and Solen; his siblings Eileen, Bill, Nancy and their families.
A Celebration of Jesse’s life was held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel Friday, October 7, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson officiated. Interment took place at Sunset Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia / Lymphoma Foundation, 2020 – 10 Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2M 3M2, or to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3.
