Observer editor Chris Marchand got wind of a spectacular display of Aurora Borealis, Monday evening and set his tripod up far from the city lights at Ghost Lake Beach. The clear moonless night made for perfect viewing conditions for a rare display of northern lights that was seen into the southern U.S..

Beautiful pictures Chris. We don’t ever see the Borealis lights here in down under. Would you mind posting camera, apeture, exposure etc. please. Just out of curiosity. Thanks.
    Have a nice day.

In regards to the exposure details — all of the exposures were between 15 and 25 seconds, F3.5 (wide open aperture) at ISO 1000. The lake scene is a two-layer manual HDR in order to get some detail in the foreground without blowing out the skies. Thanks for asking.

Wow, beautiful northern lights. What is with all the bright lights on land? I thought this was a Ghost Lake? Looks like the Husky truck stop out there!
