Lifelong resident of Sioux Lookout, Trevor Jonasson, age 36, was killed in a plane crash last week while piloting a Twin Otter float plane for Arctic Sunwest Charters of Yellowknife.
It is reported that the plane clipped a power line, struck the side of a building and came down in the city at approximately 1:30 p.m. on September 22. Some witnesses have commented the plane sounded like it was having engine trouble, but this has not been confirmed.
Jonasson and co-pilot Nicole Stacey, age 26, were both killed in the accident and had both been employees of the company for approximately two years.
The plane carried executives from Avalon Rare Metals, as well as financial analysts, and a photographer and although all passengers sustained injury, none were considered life-threatening.
RCMP Const. Kathy Law said the plane was coming in for a landing on Great Slave Lake when it crashed between two buildings. Reports say the plane was en route from Thor Lake. The Transportation Safety Board will continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
