On a sunny Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the Kenora Recreation Tennis Courts, 26 participants from Dryden, Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, Vancouver and Australia vied for 6 tennis titles in the Kenora Patricia Tennis Throwdown.The tournament was hosted by Dryden’s TEAM?Tennis leader, Brian Eschbach and John Benson of Kenora Tennis.
Winners were as follows:
Men’s Singles title was won by Sioux Lookout’s John Libler.
Men’s Doubles title was won by Sioux Lookout’s John Libler and Brian Legros. The team beat out Dryden’s Stephen Cortens who teamed up with Kenora’s Patrick Lessard.
Mixed Doubles title was won by Kenora’s Brian Lunny and Lindsay Lunny of Thunder Bay.
Women’s Singles title was won by Lindsay Lunny of Thunder Bay.
Women’s Doubles title was won by Lindsay Lunny of Thunder Bay together with Gillian Lunny of Kenora.
Junior Champion is Patrick Cooper from Australia, by way of Sioux Lookout!
Plans are in the works for next year’s tournament – Dryden will need to step up for a better showing in the 2012 Tennis Throwdown!
Eschbach reminds residents of the area that the lights are on at Milestone which is the current tennis court location for Dryden, every evening until 9:30 p.m. and will continue until the end of September.
Stephen Cortens gives it his all in the 2011 Tennis Throwdown on Aug. 27 but still came up short of the title.
