Obituaries — 28 September 2011
Dan Micek was granted his angel wings on August 29, 2011. His final days were spent surrounded by his partner and friends that Dan had touched in some small way, throughout his short, yet very memorable life.Dan’s life would seem too short to many, but for those who were touched by him, understood that the quality of existence far exceeds quantity of time in which you live it. His gentle smile and soft voice could melt the hearts of those around him.
Although Dan’s illness made him appear frail, he possessed strength, perseverance, the ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. He might relate a little of his discomforts (and there were truly so many) but then apologize and say, “I really shouldn’t complain, I’m better off than some people. I’ve still got my mind!” and laugh. With his courage he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.
He enjoyed music, especially the chill lounge, bike rides, travelling, sleeping late (no one could wake him before 12 noon) and reading stories. He loved listening to the sounds of children and especially laughter which would make him smile and sigh with contentment.
He always gave advice to people and was willing to help them in any way that he could. He loved to watch the sunsets, sit on the deck, listening to the loons, the frogs and crickets, and the wind in the trees. It was one of the few places he could always find peace.
With Dan’s passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated, although we will miss him everyday, especially his winning smile, he will always remain forever in our hearts. Through his teachings about life, we were able to create wonderful memories.
Dan has gone to be with his wife Susan Hardie in heaven. He will be remembered by his partner of a year and 4 months, Tina; his three children, Matthew, Chelsea, and Jordan. His beloved granddaughter Keirsten who meant the world to him. His sisters and brother and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also will be remembered by all his friends especially Sandy, Shannon, Dale, and Guy, and all the other friends that he left beautiful memories with.
We will miss you dearly but we know that you are in God’s loving hands and riding your Harley up there with Susan.
You Touched My Life
How many times were you brave
And I didn’t know it?
You came into my life by chance.
You touched my life
And I touched yours.
I’m a better person for it.
What hardships did you face
That I didn’t know?
You were so steadfast, a rock,
In the face of adversity.
I respected you for it.
How many times were you strong
In the eyes of your
children?
Did they see it,
Despite their playfulness?
You touched their lives
And they touched yours.
They will love you forever.
I admired your smile,
Your quiet determination,
Your rich laugh,
Your resilient courage.
Missing you
Will be the bravest thing
I’ve ever done.
