Miles Hoffman passed away peacefully with his Mom (Lucie Hoffman), Dad (Roy Hoffman), and brother (Patrick Hoffman) at his bedside on September 1, 2011 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Miles was determined, loyal, and brave throughout his four-year battle with cancer.
Miles was born in Thunder Bay on January 22, 1990 and was raised in Pickle Lake.
He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid and competent fisherman, hunter, curler, bowler, snowmobiler, driver, and boater. Miles was a determined student that through adversity received his high school diploma. He wrote his final exam the day after finding out his cancer had returned. He applied and was accepted to the School of Nursing at Lakehead University.
Miles took pride in his work and continued to work during treatments, if only for a few hours. Miles taught junior hockey, volunteered at Crolancia Public School, helped at the Pickle Lake Curling Club, was a member of the Pickle Lake Recreation Committee and volunteered at countless local events. He was proud of his community involvement and received the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers for his efforts and was regarded by the youth of Pickle Lake as a role model. Miles’ selflessness and strength was an inspiration to the end.
He leaves behind his family, friends, and the ambition of someone taken too young.
Memorial donations can be made to Tamarack House, Thunder Bay or any Cancer Research Foundation of your choice.
