New dance classes offer Latin flavours

Dance instructor Richard McIvor performs an international Rumba with Michelle Talatala during a ballroom and Latin dance showcase, Aug. 26 at the Ukrainian Hall.

Local dance instructor Richard McIvor has put his dance shoes back on after a bit of a break from instruction.

Utilizing new studio space at Fitness Edge, McIvor is offering instruction in international standard dance styles Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 for a $5 drop-in fee.He hopes the sessions will complement Debbie Carrier’s North American dance standard classes taking place Sunday and Wednesday7-9 at the Ukrainian Hall.

With his return McIvor hopes to host more showcase events, such as the one held Aug. 26 at the Ukrainian Hall and provide an outlet for more advanced dancers to test their skills within the different body mechanics of complex Latin-inspired dance styles.
