Rod McKay will be the Conservative candidate in the October Provincial elections. Following a vote of close to 200 PC members, McKay won out over Kenora city councillor, Louis Roussin.
McKay, the mill manager for Kenora Forest Products and Kenora city councillor along with Roussin, gave speeches and campained for votes on Saturday, Aug. 20 in Fort Frances, Dryden and Kenora.
“I’m very concerned about the lack of attention that’s been paid to the forest industry in northwestern Ontario. We’ve lost so many jobs in the north, and we really need to get the focus back on putting people back to work in northwestern Ontario,” said McKay. “I’m also concerned about the high cost of energy in Ontario”
McKay commented during his morning speech in Fort Frances that he is running in the election because every day he lives being frustrated by the inaction and poor policy of the McGuinty government.
“I’m frustrated by the lack of recognition of the people, issues, and businesses in Northern Ontario,” said McKay. “Frustrated because it could be so much better.”
McKay will see his name on the ballot in October along with Sarah Campbell for the NDP, Anthony Leek for the Liberal party and Jo Jo Holliday for the Green Party.
