News — 05 July 2011

On Sunday at 7:25 pm, Dryden OPP officers observed a vehicle travelling along Hwy. 17 in the City of Dryden.

This vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that had been stolen from a residence in Dryden earlier that morning. When the officer activated the police emergency lights and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle the driver quickly turned into the North Dryden residential area. After a very short pursuit the driver stopped the vehicle and fled the scene, leaving three occupants in the vehicle.

Dryden OPP officers, with the assistance of Dryden Police Service members, subsequently located the driver a short distance away and placed him under arrest.

The officers received assistance from an off-duty Dryden Fire Department member while they placed the occupants of the vehicle under arrest.

Subsequent to this incident, a 20-year old male of Dryden was charged with Flight from Police, Theft, Drive while disqualified and breach of probation. He was held in custody at a bail hearing and his next court date is July 6 in Dryden. The occupants of the vehicle were released and not charged.
