On Saturday, July 2, members of the Lac Seul Police Service attended a Frenchman’s Head residence in response to a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers located 34-year-old Simon Bunting of Constance Lake First Nations seriously injured. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 26-year-old male of the Lac Seul First Nation was subsequently arrested and charged with second degree murder in relation to Bunting’s death. He remained in custody until his court date in Sioux Lookout on Monday, July 4.

Members of the Lac Seul Police Service and the OPP Northwest Regional Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector W. Olinyk of the OPP Criminal Investigation branch are continuing the investigation into the incident.
