It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Georgina (Ina) Sampson on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Princess Court.Ina is lovingly remembered by Gordon, her husband of 71 years, and three children, Barry (Thelma), Maxine (Neil) and Terrie (Luc). Grandchildren, Paula (Tom), Stephen (Jan), Susan (Todd), Patti (Darcy), Shaun and Erin. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and her sister June Inglis of Winnipeg and many nieces and nephews.
Ina was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Ina was born in Glenboro, Manitoba on July 30, 1919. She spent her early years growing up on the Dale farm in Manitoba, where she met her future husband Gordon. They were married on September 30, 1939 and had two children, Barry and Maxine before moving to Dryden in 1947. Their youngest daughter Terrie was born in 1960, completing the family.
They resided at 29 Casimir Ave. for over 60 years until they moved into Patricia Gardens in May of 2010.
Ina worked for the Lands and Forests, Proudfoot’s clothing store and retired from McTaggarts in 1984, after working there for 15 years.
She was a devoted member of the United Church choir for many years and a member of Unit 5 UCW. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Ina enjoyed playing the piano and the organ, gardening, curling, golfing and playing cards with friends. “Flapper Pie”, Cinnamon Buns and Butter Tarts were always a special treat for the family and friends.
Mom had a love for people and a great sense of humour. We will miss you so much Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. You were our heartbeat, your strength of character was a guiding force for all of us. You were energetic, compassionate, caring, kind, humble and hospitable beyond belief.
The family would like to thank Penny Bradley and the staff of Patricia Gardens; CCAC, especially Laura Wigle and Barb Lindquist; Dr. Mazurski, the ComCare workers, Jennifer Bakos, Verna Arsenault, and the staff at Princess Court for their compassion and special care.
A private graveside service was held July 14, 2011 at the Dryden Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Church at a later date in August.
