Dryden City Council announced the appointment of Joe van Koeverden as Dryden’s city manager effective July 11, 2011.

Mr. van Koeverden holds an MBA from the University of Guelph and is currently the Regional Director for Northwestern Ontario at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Thunder Bay office.

His past experience includes Manager of Business Development and Attractions with the City of London, President/CEO of Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation and President and Senior Consultant for a managementconsulting firm.

“There is no doubt Mr. van Koeverden’s experience, knowledge, management style and enthusiasm will be a great asset to our community,” said Dryden Mayor Craig Nuttall. “Council looks forward to working with the new City Manager and together with the senior management team, building a strong future for the City of Dryden.”

Mr. van Koeveren brings a strong business and economic development background to Dryden while fully understanding how municipal government works and the challenges they face in the new economy.

Mr. van Koeverden has enjoyed the time he has spent in Northern Ontario and looks forward to sharing his passion for the outdoors including kayaking which is also a family passion, given his son is Adam van Koeverden, sprint kayaker, three-time Olympic medalist and five-time World Championship medalist.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to work and live in the City of Dryden,” said van Koeverden. “I look forward to meeting new people and becoming active in the community.”
