Dryden has seen its second nomination for the title of Ultimate Fishing Town Canada, thanks to local angler, John Butts. The World Fishing Network (WFN) accepts nominations for communities in this competition from March 1 to April 8, 2011 which will lead into a voting period.Although Dryden was close to the top in 2010, we were not successful in gaining the $25,000 prize. Butts has submitted an entry for the 2011 year, and if successful, the community could stand to achieve the large cash prize as well as a ten reels, and a feature about the winning town produced and broadcast on WFN. The $25,000 donation must be used toward fishing-related causes in the winning town.Although the initial nomination has already been submitted, residents can still add to the nominations with supporting entries including photos, videos, and written essays of their own. According to WFN, the more supporting entries your town receives, the better the chances your town has of being selected for the final round. Once the nominations close and the voting begins, every town nominated has the opportunity to vote. Voting will begin on April 12 and end on May 3, 2011. Voting is not restricted to Dryden, as anyone is allowed to vote or support a town during the contest. Each individual can vote once every six hours per e-mail address, and once the first round of voting begins, supporting entries will no longer be accepted. The top three towns from each region with the highest number of votes received during the first round of voting will automatically advance to the final voting round. WFN will select an additional eight wild card towns to make the top 20.The wild card entries will be based on originality, persuasiveness, energy, the nature of the community organization or cause identified in the entry and the number of online votes received. At the end of the final voting period, the town with the highest number of votes will be the winner. WFN will be contacting the winning town prior to a public announcement no later than June 6, 2011.For more information on the Ultimate Fishing Town Canada, or to add supporting entries for Dryden, please visit www.wfnfishingtown.ca/town/dryden-on/1047.
