Grade eight students from New Prospect School have taken up a challenge that includes 128 other countries.  The challenge is Earth Hour, and is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 26, 2011.Teyana Dyck, Trenton Gauthier and Tristen Wise of New Prospect School asked for the support of the City of Dryden, at the Monday, March 21 open meeting of council with very favourable results.  The city has jumped on board with the idea, with an official proclamation of Earth Hour in the city.  The students are not only petitioning the city council for support, but the community’s support as well.  Students are asking that from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., all residents of Dryden will turn off their unnecessary lights for the hour.Dyck used an example in her presentation to council of the moose not being on the move during hunting season, as it is still too warm.  The group bases this theory on climate change.Earth Hour originated in Sydney,  Australia in 2007.  Since then, the event has grown to over 100 countries participating, and millions of people.  To learn more about Earth Hour, you can log on to www.wwf.ca/earthhour or visit the New Prospect School’s Facebook page at Earth Hour Dryden.By Ally Dunham
