Obituaries — 01 March 2011
Peacefully at the Dryden Regional Health Centre, Ron gave in to a lengthy battle with cancer that he fought in his quiet way with amazing strength and courage.
Ron was predeceased by his mother Florence in 1985 and his father Ivan in 1990.
He is survived by his son Brent (Shannon Diehl) of Dryden, Jaymi of Calgary, their mother Debbie of Dryden, and siblings Audrey (Garry Robinson), Cathy (Ed Majewski), C.J. (Liz) and Karen (Chris Blower) of Red Lake and Balmertown. He is also survived by his special friend, Leslie Gould and her family, by nieces, nephews and several aunts and uncles.
Ron began his life on December 21st, 1950 in Gardenton, MB where he attended school through grade 3. In the summer of 1959 he moved with his family to Balmertown, ON where he continued his education at Balmertown Public School and later at Red Lake High School.
In his teen years Ron worked at Blondie’s TV and Radio and as he approached his twenties, he found employment at Dickenson Mine where he completed an apprenticeship as a plumber and pipefitter. In 1975 Ron moved to Dryden where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for the Mill in the Woodlands Division until his retirement in the fall of 2006.
Shortly after relocating to Dryden, Ron married and became a father. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the cottages in Red Lake and later in Dryden, as well as vacationing throughout Western Canada and the Northern United States. He loved to work around his home and yard and also enjoyed cars, sports, music and cooking, but his greatest passion was fishing with family and friends.
Ron had many talents. At a young age he showed a keen interest in anything mechanical. He had a great ability to keep any type of engine running from dune buggies to heavy equipment. Carpentry, woodworking and leather tooling projects were evidence of his impressive skills and showcased his creative abilities.
Ron’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Leslie and Lyndsay Gould, Mary Barrett and Ron and Robyn Kunza for their friendship and constant support.
A memorial funeral service was held Friday, February 25th at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Church, Dryden with Alice Bloomfield officiating. Interment of ashes followed in the Dryden Cemetery.
