The Dryden Ice Dogs ended their 2010/11 regular season with a four game winning streak. Playing the Fort Frances Lakers on Feb. 22, the Dogs took control with a 5-4 win over the Lakers.
With three minutes remaining, the winning marker is to the credit of Dallas Allaire after rallying from a three-goal sink to the Lakers. Ian Perrier helped move the Ice Dogs into third place with 31 saves.
The wins weren’t done there, with the Ice Dogs carrying on to cream the Sioux Lookout Flyers with a score of 10-1 on Feb. 25 in Sioux Lookout.
Goal scorers for the game included Henry Vadnais, Ryan Lobreau, Ben McClellan with three, Jesse Linner, Andrew Hansen with three and Dallas Crum.
The Ice Dogs continued on to close out their regular season with another win, leaving the team one point shy of second place in the standings.
Playing the Flyers once again in Sioux Lookout, the team took the game with a final score of 6-5 in overtime.
Dryden took three tallies in the first, with credit to Dallas Crum, Cole Manning and Jesse Linner.
The second period ended with a 4-3 lead for Dryden as Ben McClellan managed to find the back of the net one more time.
McClellan would find the net again in the third, with his 27th goal of the season. The Flyers tied it up 5-5 at 18:42, forcing the game into overtime.
It was early in the extra session that Ice Dog’s defenceman Len Pelletier made the game winning goal at the 48-second mark to give Dryden the extra point in the contest. Timmerman made 33 saves to record the win.
Regular season ending will find the Wisconsin Wilderness in first place with 95 points, Fort Frances Lakers in second with 71 points and the Dryden Ice Dogs in third with 70 points and a 34-20-2 record.
Dryden will be taking on the Duluth Clydesdales for the best of seven quarter-finals beginning Thur., Mar 3 at 7:30 in Dryden. Game two will be at home on Fri., Mar 4, puck drop at 7:30.
