The Dryden Eagles boys hockey team are hanging up their skates for another year.  After a very up and down season, the team went into the NorWOSSA playoffs battling hard.
In the best of three semifinal matchup with Kenora Broncos, the games were very close as they have been all season.
On Friday, February 25, the team traveled to Kenora for game one, but lost 1-0 in overtime.  The Eagles were outshot by a 35-19 margin, but Kim Wildhaber stood tall in net to keep the boys in the game.  Kenora made the winning goal 53 seconds into the first overtime period.
Game two was Sunday, February 27 at the Dryden Arena, with a do or die situation hanging over the team.
The opening frame saw the Eagles down by two and a scoreless second period left the team at a 0-2  going into the third.
Corbin Gervasi tipped in Zach Pitchenese’s pass early in the final period, which sparked new life into the Eagles.  Despite a number of power plays and pulling the goalie late in the game, the team came up short.  Final score for game two was 2-1 Kenora.
Coach Jamie Oltsher says, “Overall, the boys played well under the conditions.  We had more than a few injuries to key players but the team battled hard to the end in the face of adversity.”
