Obituaries — 11 March 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of Albert Joseph Langlais announces his sudden passing, at the age of 80 years on February 17, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.Albert will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years Joanne, and his children, Dwayne, Dee-Dee (Darrin), Brad, Sherry (Devin), and Giselle (Kevin). Albert will also be fondly remembered by his fourteen grandchildren, Taylor, Jerek, Mandy, Skyler, Amber, Zoey, Coby, Emaya, Caitlyn, Kristyn, Raegan, Kodi, Kolton, Kourtney, his special “little one” Jewel and by his great-grandson Gavin. He will also be missed by his faithful four-legged companion Abby. Albert is survived by his sister, Betty (Dennis) Wensley from Parksville, B.C. and many nieces and nephews who were all very special to him. Albert was preceded in death by his parents Francois and Josephine and siblings Alex, Lea, Rose, Evelyn, Ann, Leo Alphonse, Frances and Madeline and one of his best friends, Eddy Owens.Albert was born March 26, 1930 in La Broquerie, Manitoba to Francois and Josephine Langlais.  He attended Pinewood School and really did walk 2 miles to and from school every day. During his life he lived in Pinewood; Biggar, Saskatchewan where he met and married his wife Joanne, Camp 210, Dryden, Camp Robinson and finally settled in Ear Falls. Many happy memories were made in all towns but Camp Robinson was the place that remains in our hearts with the happiest memories of our dad.  Albert was a very strong and hardworking man his entire life and was employed as a bush worker from the age of 14, while briefly working for CN Rail and continuing on as a bush worker until retiring from Ear Falls Contracting in 1994.Albert was an avid curler in his day participating in and winning many bonspiels, and continued watching and cheering on Kevin Martin and his team. Albert also had a love for golf and sometimes would go out twice a day until his legs would no longer allow him to. Albert’s hobbies included card playing of any type but loved beating his nephews and great-nephews at cribbage. He loved and always looked forward to a big game of Texas Hold’em with his family and friends. Albert was very family orientated and spent much of his time with his children and grandchildren who will miss him dearly. Albert loved picking blueberries and even in his 80th year was still out in the berry patch with his 90 year old friend Hector Gouliquer. Albert’s favourite getaway was Fortune Bay Casino in Minnesota where he made many happy memories with family and friends. Albert had loved hunting moose and deer and in his later years loved hunting partridge with his sons and grandsons. Albert was a trickster and loved playing jokes on people and had many great stories to tell. Albert was the kindest, gentlest soul and his legacy will live on through his children and his grandchildren.  He was our protector, our foundation, our role model and our hero.We miss you and love you dearly. If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.Thanks to the people of Ear Falls for their kindness, generosity and support.A memorial funeral service was held on Thursday, February 24th at 1 pm in the Ear Falls Royal Canadian Legion with Reverend Audrey Hazelwood officiating. A private family interment will follow at a later date in the Ear Falls Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society through Herold Funeral Home “The Red Lake Chapel”, P.O.
