Winter is not only about cold temperatures and frozen pipes. It’s also about snowmachines, curling, skating, sliding, bonfires and tennis.
It’s about family fun, dogsled rides, hay rides, ice fishing, kite skiing and hockey games.
The fun begins on Saturday, February 19 with Snowarama, a D.A.R.E. Dance at Dryden High School for Grades six to eight and the opening ceremonies in conjunction with the Dryden Ice Dogs final home game.
In order to attend the opening, participants can buy a toque from Time Out Sports, DMTS, Dryden Pool and Fitness Centre, Timbermax, Home Hardware, Dryden Regional Health Centre or BMO.
With the purchase of a $10 Winterfest toque, you will receive a ticket to the Dryden Ice Dogs game, as well as a ballot for a chance to win $1,000 cash at the game. Proceeds are going to the Neighbourhood Legacy Project in support of outdoor recreation in the area.
Sunday will see a breakfast at the Moose Hall, free swimming, skating at the oval and the arena, sliding hill at Van Horne Landing, a bonfire and warm-up hut and free snow kiting lessons and demonstrations. Sunday evening will wrap up with a curling funspiel beginning at 5:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required for the funspiel.
Monday will begin with a pancake breakfast at the Legion, followed by free water fit, fun swim, progressive tennis skating at the oval, sliding hill and bonfire with warm-up hut. Also taking place on Monday at Van Horne Landing include free sleigh rides, dog sled rides and snow kiting lessons.
Other events that fall on Monday requiring pre-registration will include a 3 on 3 hockey tournament, free family fishing derby and Pimp Your Ice Shack judging.
