The start of a three-game southern road trip did not see positive results for the Dryden Ice Dogs.
Following a 1-0 second period lead, the Dogs couldn’t hang on to the end, falling to Wisconsin Wilderness with a final score of 2-1 in overtime.
Thomas Greene found the net with a power play goal late in the second.
Lacing up their skates for round two in Spooner against the Wilderness, the Dogs found a little déjà vu happening with a second defeat to Wisconsin and a final score again of 2-1 in a shoot out.
Following a scoreless opening period, Dryden would strike first late in the second period as Thomas Greene converted on the power play with his 12th goal of the season. Shots on goal favoured the Wilderness with a count of 26-19.
Dryden earned a point as their overall record went to 26-18-1 in what was their first setback in either OT or a shootout this season.
The Dogs didn’t let this loss get them down though, following up with a win over the Duluth Clydesdales on Feb. 6. The Ice Dogs scored three times on the power play to defeat the Duluth Clydesdales 3-0.
Dwight Lee would send the Ice Dogs on their way notching the eventual game-winner with a man advantage marker midway through the opening period.
Lee would then set-up Austin Weih at the 15:12 mark of the second period with Dryden’s second extra man effort of the night to make it a 2-0 contest after 40 minutes.
In the third Thomas Greene would strike on the power play with seven and half minutes to go to round out the scoring with Lee collecting his third point of the game with an assist.
Brett Timmerman would stop all 27 shots he faced to register the shutout in picking up the win for Dryden who improved to 27-18-2 on the season.
