The Dryden Youth Centre received some special guests on January 13.  Town Youth Participation Strategies (TYPS) is an organization from Ottawa that specializes in Youth Centres in Canada.
Funded by the Healthy Communities Fund, the TYPS Challenge Program was offered to Dryden youth and was developed to positively impact youth in youth centres across Ontario.
Focusing on leadership training, the challenge will increase youth’s capacity, knowledge and skills through awareness of healthy lifestyle choices.  They were taught increased problem solving and decision-making skills that will reduce risk taking behaviour associated with alcohol, illicit drug use and tobacco use.
The challenge was offered to the Dryden Youth Centre, as well as the Dryden Native Friendship Centre and other youth focused facilities in the region.
Following successful completion of the program, youth who participate will receive a Youth Participation Certificate and positive community recognition.
Four participants from the Dryden Youth Centre (DYC) will also be subsidized by TYPS and the DYC to attend the TYPS Annual Conference 2011 held in Ottawa.
