If all goes according to plan, local ball players could be seeing the benefits of the Light The Diamonds initiative by June.
Light the Diamonds proponent Angie Berrey says the committee hopes to see the pavilion (already under construction) become operational in some manner for the 2011 season.
The group met with city officials last Friday to hand over a cheque for $100,000 — the results of a significant fundraising effort. The club now has another $94,000 to raise in order to match the financial commitments of the federal and provincial governments.
“This project may have started with the ball players, but it has rapidly become a community event and we would like to thank all of the local individuals, professionals and businesses, contractors and corporations for their support,” said Berrey. “The work in-kind donations, which have been a huge part of this project are proudly showing Dryden’s hometown spirit to bettering our community.”
Berrey sends a special thanks to contractor Shaun Kurz who has worked closely with the city and allowed local ball players to assist with work in-kind duties.
