Shoppers at Dryden’s Extra Foods on Highway 17 may not have to battle with commercial transports for parking spots anymore.
Owners of the Loblaw’s franchise have requested to enter into an agreement with council at the December 13 Committee of the Whole meeting to have the Dryden Police Services (DPS) provide parking lot enforcement services on private property.
Following a completed application package, and a study done by city staff, including on-site visits, it was decided that Extra Foods have met the conditions necessary to create the by-law.
Although DPS will not see remuneration by way of salary for the additional patrol, any tickets issued on the property will become revenue of DPS.
Owners of Extra Foods say there has been ongoing issues and safety concerns that have been identified for their property and patrons.  The only other private property currently patrolled and enforceable by the Dryden Police is the Dryden Regional Cultural and Training Centre.
If approved, the by-law will see first, second and third reading at the December 20 regular council meeting.
