The Dryden Ice Dogs are up and down this past week, but are forging ahead. Coming out of a 3-1 victory against Fort Frances last Tuesday, gave the Ice Dogs a three game winning streak. The Dogs travelled to Thunder Bay this past weekend, and challenged the North Stars to a head to head competition Friday and Saturday night.
Friday night proved successful for the Dryden boys, taking a win of 1-0 over the Thunder Bay team.
With a shootout victory, Ben McClellan and Brendan Wertanen took the team to a four game streak. Ian Perrier was solid stopping 33 of 34 shots on goal for Friday’s game.
“We scored one yesterday, and none today,” says Ice Dogs coach Clint Mylymok following Saturday night’s game. “The power play has to score. We had five on three forever, and in those situations, we look for certain guys to step up in that role and they’re not doing it.”
Saturday proved not so successful for the team, with a 0-0 score right into the end of the third period, and finished with a 2-0 loss. Quinn Remple of the North Stars took the first goal over the Ice Dogs late in the third, and Mitch Forbes finished it off with an empty net goal.
“I’m happy with their effort, but I’m not happy with their execution at the right times,” says Mylymok. “We battled hard this weekend against Thunder Bay, who is a team that is going through a rough patch, and that was a good opportunity to come in and take four points. That didn’t happen, so I’m frustrated, and we have to regroup and get ready for next week.”
Ice Dogs play their next game on Friday, Nov. 5 in Sioux Lookout, and then Sioux Lookout travels here for an Ice Dogs home game on Saturday, Nov. 6.
The Nov. 6 home game is also the Lace Up For Cancer game. The Dryden team will be wearing pink and black jerseys, which will be presented to those who have purchased the jersey in support of breast cancer research. Everyone come out and join the Ice Dogs, and Pink the Rink!
