The Dryden Army Cadets are celebrating the achievements of soldiers and military of the past and present by participating in the annual Legion Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Beginning with a service at the Legion at 10:15 a.m., the army cadets will join Legion members in carrying the flags and listening to the Last Post.
The cadets will then march in formation to the Cenotaph for the wreath laying and an additional service.
Although the four cadets posted on the Cenotaph feel exertion, the sense of pride for their uniform and the reason they are there, far outweighs the physical challenge of the stance.
The Legion completes the day by hosting a dinner the evening of Remembrance Day, beginning with a banquet at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m.
Cadets will be on hand for the dinner, assisting with the serving and cleaning up.
With 22 members signed up in the program this year, including ten new members, the group is strong and thriving.
The kids participate in fundraising annually, and this year the group is starting their fundraising with a pig roast on November 17.
Last year, the group raised enough money to supply each cadet with personal attire with the crest attached, so they could have something to show for their hard work, and give them a sense of pride and ownership within the group.
The goal this year is to work toward attending the Manitoba Moose Military Appreciation Night in Winnipeg on March 18.
The cadets attend the game in uniform, and have yet to be involved in a special evening dedicated to those in service.
The biggest challenge for this right now, is funding for the tickets to the game, as well as lodging costs at the base in Winnipeg and bus transportation.
If you are interested in helping out the cadets,  you can buy tickets for the pig roast, which are $10 each and include your entire meal, at Lotto One, the Legion or any cadet member.
