The Dryden Eagles senior boys volleyball team took gold at the NWOSSA championship in Dryden on Friday, November 19 putting them in the running for OFSAA.
Competing against the St. Ignatius Falcons, the Eagles team took three of five in the first round at 2 p.m. on Friday, with winning scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-15.
The second round began at 7 p.m. and again the Eagles took flight with three straight wins with scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-10.
This total defeat won them a spot in OFSAA, which is to take place in Mississauga on November 25 and will see the team at #4 seed.  First game is to take place at 1 o’clock CST against Timiskaming.
Coach Jenny McMaster says, “We’re really excited to play the big tournament in Mississauga, and hopefully they’ll do well.  They just need to work the energy up and enjoy the experience.”
Brenden Szabo, #3 of the Eagles team, commented on the strengths and weaknesses of the team and areas they can see improvement.
“We feel great.  We’re so excited for OFSAA and can’t wait for it!  We didn’t play our best the first couple of sets, but then we pulled together and played our best game the last one.  Hopefully we can tighten our game up, we’re playing a little bit sloppy, so we have to clean up our defence and we’ll be good,” says Szabo.
The DHS Eagles girls basketball team also competed in NWOSSA against St. Ignatius on Friday, but unfortunately dropped the ball with a 2 out of 3 game loss.
